They were very concerned to look beautiful and rich. So, they mixed wine vinegar with ground pumice to create a white paste that they applied to their teeth.

The ancient Romans used urine as bleach to whiten teeth. It was the ammonia in the urine that contributed to a bright smile.

The gel can be applied in a whitening tray that is placed over the teeth, or with a small brush or toothbrush. You can also put it in a whitening pen and apply with the pen.

Advantages of using bleaching gel

One of the advantages of using whitening gel to lighten teeth is the ease of use. Because you can use the gel on a tray, in a pen, or paint it directly on the teeth with a brush, it makes it easier for people to apply the gel in any method that is right for them. The whitening gel works in just 10 minutes, which makes it perfect for people who want to clear their teeth before leaving or going to work. The bleaching gel is also not as complicated as some other types of teeth whitening products because it is a thick gel. But despite the advantages of using bleaching gel, it is not always the best option for teeth whitening.

Disadvantages of using bleaching gel

Bleaching gel, like many other peroxide-based tooth bleaches, does not whiten teeth dramatically. If your teeth have some minor stains or just look opaque, then a whitening gel will make your teeth look whiter. But if your teeth are discolored or very stained, the peroxide gel will not have enough power to whiten your teeth dramatically. Another disadvantage is that the gel has to remain on your teeth to be able to work, which means you can not eat, drink or do anything that can loosen the gel on your teeth the entire time you are using the gel. Daily use of the gel can weaken the enamel of your teeth and, over time, can cause sensitivity or worsen any existing sensitivity.

Danger of teeth whitening with non-natural techniques: chemical burns

If you use a DIY kit or have a teeth whitening at the dentist if you use a product or perform a treatment that does not use natural elements to whiten the teeth, you could hurt yourself. Many products that do not have a natural base use aggressive chemicals that can destroy the surface of the teeth, ruin the enamel of the tooth or even cause unpleasant chemical burns on the gums. Chemical burns on the gums can take weeks to heal and are very painful.
